As I was giving my best man speech from the reaction of the audience I got the feeling that they loved it. They couple seemed to be delighted too. I have always feared about making best man speeches but I was really thrilled when I managed to pull off a best man speech successfully at my friend’s wedding. It was truly a wonderful feeling. Would you like to know how a guy who happened to be so afraid of making speeches in public end up making a nice best man speech successfully? I think my sense of responsibility played a great part. I realized that my friend and his bride would be quite disappointed if I failed to make at least a reasonably good speech. And thus I was determined to do whatever it takes to deliver a good best man speech. It’s needless to say that my disciplined approach paid off nicely.

Best man speeches can be funny, tender, touching and downright tearful, but most importantly, best man speeches should be prepared well ahead of time and the best man should try and avoid heavily imbibing prior to his speech. I have suffered through many best man speeches where the best man had far too much to drink to even manage to read the few words he may have scrawled onto a piece of paper. Those best man speeches are often rambling, and while funny, they tend to be humorous for the wrong reasons. The best man should convey not only his admiration and love for his best friend and the bride in his words, but also remember that his words should convey the reason he was chosen to be the best man in the first place.

We’re really going all out on this one. We’ve got a caterer and a bartender, and I can’t wait till everyone sees the decorations out back by the swimming pool. Oh, and a special shout out to Angela for helping me on the karaoke rental. That’s right, folks. Be prepared to sing your little hearts out. Well, only if you wanna. Just don’t laugh at the rest of us if you aren’t going to make a fool out of yourself too. The karaoke machine is really cool, by the way. We’ve been practicing. It hooks right up to our stereo system and TV, and you see the lyrics on the TV screen. Anyway, we’ll have a lot of other things going on, too.
